Bantwal: In a shocking incident, a couple in the Bantwal taluk was attacked by a gang in their own home early on Friday, November 29 morning. Some of the perpetrators were caught by the police, hours after the incident occurred.

In the incident, the husband, Yogish Prabhu suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. Yogish is a member of the Meramajalu Gram Panchayat and is a resident of the Baddur village.

It is learnt that a group of persons approached the Yogish and his wife, Shobha’s house at 4 AM and rang the doorbell. When they opened the door, the perpetrators, who were armed with swords, attacked the couple. Their screams for help caused the attackers to flee the scene in a hurry. At this time, their dog started barking, alerting the neighbours, who rushed to the spot and found the injured couple. They immediately rushed them to a hospital for treatment.

Although Yogish was severely injured in the incident, he is said to be out of danger.

It is suspected that at least one of the attackers was injured in the incident as bloodstains were found on the other side of the couple’s house, where the perpetrators are believed to have escaped.

The wife, Shobha filed a complaint with the police in this regard and accused Meramajalu resident Prasad Belchada and his associates of committing the crime. In her complaint, Shobha said that Prasad attacked them as a form of retaliation, as her husband, Yogish had mentioned his name to the police in connection with another case.

SP Laxmiprasad, Bantwal Sub Division ASP Saidul Adawat, Bantwal Circle Inspector T D Nagaraj, rural police station Sub-Inspector Prasanna and others visited the spot for inspection. The police recovered a sword, a stick and a knife from the scene and have a registered a case in this regard.

Within hours after the couple was attacked, police arrested Prasad Belchada, Sripathi and Karthik near Kateel.
