Mangaluru: The BJP Mangaluru South President D Vedhavyasa Kamath on November 22 slammed Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Kavitha Sanil, as the “Antony Solid Waste Management” has stopped garbage collection in the city.

Addressing a press meet in the city and alleging that the delay in payment was due to the irresponsibility and lack of motive of the mayor, Kamath said, “MCC has to pay Rs 36, 31,18, 994 to the Mumbai-based Antony Solid Waste Management Company for garbage collection as per the tender agreement. But as the MCC has failed to pay the due amount to the company, it has not provided salary to it’s employees. Due to this, the workers have stopped the garbage collection in the city.”

Due to differences between MCC and the solid waste management company, people in the city are suffering as the garbage remains uncollected. “If this continues there are chances of rise in vector-borne diseases in the city”, he added.

He also said the Antony Solid Waste Management Company had issued legal notice to the MCC as the latter had violated the agreement conditions by not paying the due amount.

The mayor is now claiming to find alternate solution of terminating the tender but according to the agreement it is not possible.

He also said that the MCC BJP corporators would give memorandum in this regard and if the problem is not resolved then the opposition would hold a protest against the “irresponsible” MCC administration.

BJP Corporators Roopa D Bangera, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Bhaskar Chandra Shetty and others were present in the press meet.
