Mangaluru: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) National President H D Deve Gowda welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue, opining that compensation should be granted for the Muslim community in order to construct a masjid.

Addressing reporters here on Saturday, November 9, Gowda said that the Court, while delivering the verdict, had informed that the move of Hindu activists to destroy Babri Masjid was wrong. “Hence, my personal opinion is that the union government should be asked by the Supreme Court to pay compensation to Muslims to construct a masjid”, he said.

Meanwhile, Gowda clarified that he won’t be soft against the BJP and said that he has not yet decided to support BJP after by-election results.

“I will decide whether to support or not to BJP, only after observing the move by the Congress high command,” Gowda added.

Meanwhile, Gowda informed that he would tour across the state in order to strengthen the party. “I am striving hard to save and strengthen the regional party JD|(S). As Mangaluru is a sensitive place, I will give more importance to Mangaluru and the public should support our JD(S) candidates,” he added.

JD(S) leaders B M Farooq, M Sadhashiva, Bhoje Gowda, Akshith Suvarna, Sumathi Hegde, Mohammed Kunhi and others were present.
