Green Tribunal gives conditional clearance to Yettinahole project

Mangaluru:The National Green Tribunal has given a conditional clearance for the ongoing Yettinahole project.

K S Somashekar, an environmentalist had appealed to the court stating that state government, by violating the environmental laws, was trying to implement this project.

The two judge bench presided by Javeed Rahim and Ranjan Chatterji have passed the order giving conditional clearance to implement the first phase of Yettinahole project.

Meanwhile, two more applications filed by Purushotham Chitrapur and Kishore Kumar are pending before the court. Purshotham Chitrapur had filed the application questioning Yettinahole work as a drinking water project and Kishore Kumar citing its implications on the biological diversity.

It may recalled that the people of Dakshina Kannada had agitated against the project demanding the state government to drop it.
