Mangaluru: “It is the achievement, hardwork and thoughts that are foundations which exalt a man towards greatness. God renders us with opportunities, and does not curse or bless us. It is essential that we have the will to use this given opportunity. The most noteworthy model for this attitude is Harekala Hajabba,” said Keonics President Harikrishna Bantwal.

He was speaking at Ujire’s Krishnanugraha Sabhabhavana on behalf of Padma Shri Awardee Harekala Hajabba Felicitation Committee, Belthangady of Dakshina Kannada District on Tuesday November 23. “Those who are inherently humane can become great. Every human being has a unique thinking power and strength, however, we fail in recognising the same. Students should become the asset for the future of India. The idea of contributing to society will continue to grow if one develops originality instead of imitating others,” he added.

Addressing the gathering Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja said, “He has dedicated his whole life for the society without seeking any attention, and thus has become an inspiration to others. His work has come as a great blessing for all those who would otherwise go without education. His great work is now recognised by whole of the nation.”

In his acceptance speech, Padma Shri Hajabba thanked all those who recognised him. “Education is the most powerful tool in building the future of children. No one should be deprived of education. I shall always remember the support given by the MLA, institutions and people of Belthangady,” he expressed.

The event was held with the joint auspices of the Rotary Club of Belthangady, Ujire’s organisation, Baduku Kattona Banni and other like-minded organisations. Student leaders from various colleges inaugurated the event by donating books to Hajabba’s school library.

Rotary Club along with the Baduku Kattona Banni team donated Rs. 5 lakh for building an addition classroom at Hajabba’s school. Also 10 pairs of sports equipment were donated to the school. On behalf of Mahila Mandali Okkoota, Ujire Gram Panchayat and Kajoor Dargah Shareef Hajabba was feliciated as well as given financial assistance.
