Mangaluru: Shilpa, a single mother from Hassan, has become the talk of the town for her ‘Halli Mane Rotties’. Her successful business, running a food truck out of a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck in Mangaluru, caught the attention not only of the media, but also that of industrialist and Chairman of Mahindra Group – Anand Mahindra.
Impressed by the zeal and success of Shilpa’s business, and hearing of her desire to expand her business by adding another food truck, Mahindra has expressed his desire to invest in her business.
He tweeted: “A terrific story of entrepreneurship to end the week with. At Mahindra, we call this a Rise story. Am so delighted the Bolero played a small role. Can someone reach her & tell her I will personally invest in her expansion by supplying a Bolero for the second outlet she’s planning.”

Shilpa is a single mother, who started her food truck business after her husband went missing in February of 2008. Married off at a very young age, to a transport company owner in Mangalore, tragedy struck her happy, wealthy family, when her husband mysteriously went missing one day. With every bit of property gone, Shilpa was left all alone to fend for herself and her new born son.
Soon Shilpa gathered herself up and started working in shops and stores, but she knew that was not her cup of tea. Pooling together some money, she bought a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck to start a canteen that would serve Malnad dishes in fish obsessed Karavali.
The Tuluvas accepted Shilpa’s endeavours with open arms and the rest, as they say, is history. Ably assisted by her father and brother, Shilpa rolls out some sumptuous jowar, ragi, rice rotti, ragi mudde and various other dishes.
Speaking to newskarnataka.com, Shilpa said that she is elated by the development and is looking forward to witnessing what the New Year has in store for her.
“Ill health had compelled me to stay away from the canteen for several months now. But, I am fit now and I will start off with all my might from January,” says Shilpa.
Kudos to the lady who dared to venture into avenue of cooking, which is always considered fit for a lady to do as duty and not as business.
