Mangaluru: Dasara is one of the major festivals celebrated in Karnataka. Celebrations include worshipping Durga, lighting up temples and roads, fireworks, processions etc. Last year due to Covid – 19 protocols there were not many celebrations. However, this year it was widely celebrated all over India.

Despite Health Ministry’s warnings that there would be a spike in the number of Covid – 19 cases in the month of November and December due to the festive season, large number of people were seen gathered round the City without even wearing proper masks.

Karnataka has recently seen a decline in number of Covid – 19 cases, due to which the Karnataka Government will decide on easing the curbs soon. The final decisions will be out only after discussions with experts, said the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

A City resident who attended the festival said, “In a group of ten people hardly two wore masks and also people including the officials responsible for managing the crowds weren’t wearing masks. Another major issue was that the entry and the exit to the ceremony wasn’t managed, which caused an overcrowding of people. People who wore the masks, leave their noses uncovered.”

Although, Covid – 19 has caused people to stay at home for a long period, the relaxation of rules has stopped people from following the protocols.
