Mangaluru: Newly-appointed Home Minister and KPCC Chief Dr G Parameshwar on Sunday, November 8, paid his maiden visit to the city after being administered the new post in the state cabinet.
Addressing a press meet later at Circuit House, he said that he had studied the conditions in the jail. As he was not convinced with the facilities there, he said he had decided to amend the jail manual. To further reduce the stress in the jail, a new open jail will be built at 40-acre land in Konaje and said that he would talk to the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister to allocate funds for the same in the next budget.
Speaking further he said that about 20 CISF guards will be deployed outside the jail to fortify security. He also said network jammers and CCTVs will be installed in the jail premises immediately.
He asked people of the undivided Dakshina Kannada to maintain peace and harmony and gave a call to approach the police on encountering any untoward incident urging them not to take law in their hands.
Rubbishing the BJP’s claim regarding the Cobrapost sting that nearly 60 percent of the police force was made of RSS activists, he said that while a section might have got selected due to reservation, the rest were recruited based on their performances in tests. As many as 8,000 police personnel have been recruited this year, he said.
