Mangaluru: Hundreds of heavy multi axel lorries have been stranded at Gundya forest check post on the border of Dakshina Kannada and Hassan districts since last three days.
The NH 75 which connects Bengaluru to Mangaluru was closed following mudslide at Donigal at Sakleshpur taluk in the month of July. The Hassan deputy commissioner R Girish imposed a ban on movement of all kinds of vehicles through this road, and blocked it for repairing. After the repair the Hassan district administration allowed the movement of vehicles from morning 6 am to evening 6 pm from August 16 sans multi axel heavy lorries carrying load above 20 tonnes.
When hearing the news of road block being opened, hundreds of tankers, lorries started plying. But at Gundya police stopped the lorries. Hundreds of lorry drivers and cleaners on Friday staged protest urging police to allow lorries.
Kadaba taluk lorry owner’s association president Mohideen said that lorries came here hearing the road was opened for all. He urged authorities to allow lorries which are stranded here since past three days.
Kadaba taluk Tahsildar Ananth Shankar visited spot and told that Hassan and Dakshina Kannada district administrations banned movement of above 6 wheelers. He said lorry drivers should move on alternate routes and made it clear that no lorries will be allowed till order from deputy commissioners.
