Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport celebrated the 74th Republic Day in an atmosphere filled with patriotic pride. The gathering which comprised various stakeholders of the airport relived the spirit in which the nation adopted the Constitution as its guiding principle and roadmap to the nation’s progress on this very day in 1950.

The synchronized display of the myriad training that Airport Security Group (ASG) personnel of CISF undergo to keep the airport a safe and secure place won the praise of all concerned. The display ranged from obedience and duty displayed by the canine squad of the ASG to the high-voltage Israeli martial art form of Krav Maga. The ASG personnel also vowed the audience with a power-packed display of reflex shooting techniques.

The ASG personnel with their astute display of yoga also demonstrated the means they use to control their mind and body in discharging their onerous duties. Yoga for these ASG personnel serves as a tool for the physical and mental fitness that their duty demands from them. The display reassured the stakeholders that the environment in which they work is secure and that the ASG personnel can deal with any emergent situation.

Belgian Malinois join Canine Squad

The highlight of the celebration was the induction of Max and Ranger, a Belgian Malinois into the canine squad of CISF at the airport. Incidentally, Max bagged the first prize in the batch of dogs that trained at CRPFs Dog Breeding and Training School at Taralu, Bengaluru and Ranger the second prize. Cultural programmes and an impressive drive past by operational vehicles and equipment of the airport brought down the curtains on the event.

Earlier, Kishore Alva, Executive Director (Projects & Corporate Affairs), the chief guest, inspected the guard of honour, unfurled the national tricolour, and delivered the Republic Day message. Kishor Kumar, in charge Chief Airport Security Officer and deputy commandant, CISF, heads of departments from the airport and representatives of airlines and government agencies were present on this occasion.
