Bantwal: Inspired by the movement spearheaded by Daddalakadu Friends’ Club to save government schools facing closure, the parents too contributed their might through “Shramdhaan” in an attempt to augment the existing infrastructure in the school under Mudunadagodu Gram Panchayat (GP) limits.

The Daddalakadu school is in news for all the good reasons after a group of friends under the banner of “Durga Friends club, Karenki” came together to revive the age old government school on the verge of closure and are taking path-breaking measures to bring it on par with other affluent schools in the private sector.

As part of the project, the first floor construction is underway at a cost of Rs 1.2 Crore and the entire work is likely to near completion by the end of calendar year. Parents, children and members of Durga Friend’s Club voluntarily offered their labour (Shramdhaan) on Sunday, May 27. They were all seen sweating it out in an attempt to carve a better future for their children. More than 150 children have enrolled afresh during this academic year in primary section which simply speaks volumes about the humongous effort being put in by the club. The school surroundings were cleared of weeds to make it environmentally friendly and few repair works completed during day’s selfless labour.

Durga Friends Club President Prakash Aanchan, the school staff led by Headmaster Maurice D’Souza, local GP members, School Development and Management Committee (SDMC) members took active part in the day’s activity while simultaneously overseeing the works in progress.

The school has not received any financial aid from the union or state government despite making huge strides in terms of academic excellence and infrastructure. With limited resources at it’s disposal, the school is slowly truly turning out be a “model school” in the state for the rest to emulate.
