Mangaluru: Mangalore Bar Association and Dakshina Kannada District Legal Service Authority and District Administration have jointly organized a Legal Literacy Campaign and Mobile Janatha Adalat awareness program for the people of Mangaluru City and Taluk from Aug 31 to Sep 9, 2015.
The Legal Literacy Campaign awareness chariot and Mobile Janatha Court was inaugurated by the Family Court Principal Judge Bailur Shankra Rama in the presence Mangaluru DC A.B. Ibrahim and DCP Ishwar Prasad at the District Court premises, Mangaluru.
In his address, Judge Bailur Shankra Rama said “many new laws and amendments have come, and people are not aware of the proceedings, so in order to reach the common man we have started giving awareness, and so far we have got good response from people of Sullia, Bantwal and Belthangaldy.”
The new laws like Economic Affairs, Cyber Crime, IT is not known to people. In order to make the information available to common people, media plays an important role, making them aware of the facilities available to them”, he added.
Speaking on the awareness programme the DC said “Don’t take law into your hand, let the law do its duty. There is a need for more awareness, to reach people at the right time. These are welfare measure laws, and they should not be misused”. He added that the positive factors should be highlighted and made aware to people.
“The SC/ST Act, POCSO Act awareness is very important at this particular time when the district is seeing more such cases day by day”, he said.
S.P Chengappa, President, Mangalore Bar Association said “The mobile janatha court will help the people to know more about law and order. The main aims and objectives of Legal Services Authorities Act are to provide free legal aid and advice to all the eligible persons.”
Judge Ganesh, Member Secretary, Legal Service Authority, Mangalore speaking to press persons said, “A total of 28 cases were disposed in Sullia, Puttur, Bantwal and Belthangady taluk in one week campaign” and according to the monthly National Lok Adalat statisctics from Janaury to August 10, 2015 a total of 61618 cases were disposed out of which 56,228 were pre litigation cases disposed under tripling matters like Forest Offences, Bank Matters, money Suits, BSNL, Idea Cellular. There are 1042 civil cases, and 4348 criminal cases pending in the court.”
Deputy Labour Commissioner D G Nagesh, Additional SP Vincent Shantharaj, Information Officer Khader Shah, Akashvani Assistant Director Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and others were present.
