Jnanpith awardee Konkani litterateur Maujo in M’luru on March 19, 20

Mangaluru: Jnanpith Award-winning Konkani Novelist Damodar Maujo will be in the City on March 19, and March 20.

He will be delivering a congratulatory speech at the main function of Mrs. Vimala. V. Pai World Konkani Literary Award and Sri Basti Vamana Shenoy World Konkani Service Award which is scheduled to take place at World Konkani Centre on March 20 at 10.00 am.

Damodar Maujo after being present as a Chief Guest at the Symposium on “Life and Work of Basti Vamana Shenoy” that will be held on March 19, will also participate in an interaction programme on “Konkani Literature: Jnanapith and the Path towards Future” jointly organised by the World Konkani Centre and Konkani Sahitya Academy as part of Konkani Litfest, a world Konkani conference. The programme will be hosted by Konkani writer H. M. Pernal.

Maujo, who lives in Majorda, Goa, is a well-known novelist of Konkani. He has won many awards, including Kendra Sahitya Academy Award and Vimala.V. Pai World Konkani Literary Award. Maujo’s novels have been translated to many languages and have played a significant role in several movements such as liberation of Goa, affirming Konkani as the state language, inclusion of Konkani in 8th Schedule of the Constitution, and Konkani in school education among others.
