Kanachur Hospital launches Oncology Department on Oct 1

Mangaluru: Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, Natekal, launched the Department of Oncology commemorating breast cancer awareness month on Friday October 1.

The inaugural ceremony began with watering the plant by Haji U.K. Monu, Chairman, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences along with the Chief Guest Dr. Rajendra K.V., the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, U.T. Khader , MLA ,Mangaluru Constituency, Prof. Dr. Satheesh Bhandary, the Vice Chancellor, NITTE, Dr. Kishore Kumar, District Health and Family Welfare Office, Dakshina Kannada, Dr. Ratnakar, District Nodal Officer, Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka, Dr. Jayaram Shetty, Prof & HOD of Radiation Oncology, KSHEMA and Dr. Mohammed Ismail H, Professor of Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Abdul Rahiman, Director, Kanachur institute and medical sciences, Dr. H.S Virupaksha, Dean, Kanachur Institute and Medical Sciences, Dr Devidas Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kanachur hospital and research centre ,Dr. Guruprasad Bhat and Dr. Najeeb, Medical Oncologists, Dr. Rohan S. Monis, Chief Administrative.

Dr. Guruprasad Bhat, Medical Oncologist, warmly welcomed the guests and the gathering and Dr. Najeeb, Medical Oncologist, highlighted the significance of breast cancer month. He stressed on the importance of early diagnosis of cancer especially in the young female population.

Dr. Rajendra K.V, inaugurated and launched the breast cancer department of oncology and breast cancer awareness month. He stated that the launch of the oncology department was to add another feather in the cap and was very proud of this major milestone achieved by Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre.

U.T.  Khader said that   Dakshina Kannada has  8 medical colleges and it is a proud fact that Deralakatte has 3 medical colleges. He congratulated the leadership teams of Kanachur and KSHEMA for collaborating for the service of the community towards cancer care.

Professor, Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Dr. Mohammed Ismail H, spoke about the significance of current treatment methods and how it can help to cure various stages of cancers. He mainly stated that “cancer is curable”.

Dr. Satheesh Bhandary stated that this was a momentous occasion because of the collaboration between the two institutions for the fight against the cancer. He said, “cancer is treatable if diagnosed early and with the right treatment methods”.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Dr. Kishore Kumar congratulated Kanachur for launching the department of oncology and said that they can collaborate with each other to conduct various screening programs in rural areas of Mangaluru.

The Covid warriors who had done a commendable job during the peak of the pandemic to their societies by actively participating in the crucial work were recognized by the chief guests of the event.

Dr. Rohan S. Monis , Chief Administrative Officer, conveyed his vote of thanks reiterating the workplace activities and the collaborative efforts during the Covid pandemic and thanked the guests profusely.

The event ended on a high note with the singing of the national anthem. Officers and other heads of various departments, professors, faculty and students were present.
