Mangaluru: Karnataka Assembly elections are touted to be the semi-finals before 2019 Lok Sabha polls. With the exit polls predicting a hung assembly in the state, everyone is on tenterhooks to know the final outcome.

The counting for elections in 222 out of 224 constituencies is all set to begin in less than 12 hours from now. With state recording a voter turnout of 72.13 percent, which is considered to be the highest-ever, the excitement surrounding the results is manifold. The election was a three-cornered contest between the ruling Congress, the opposition BJP and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (S), with each party exuding confidence of forming the government on its own.

The results will decide the fate of over 2,600 candidates in the fray which includes over 2,400 men and 200 women.

Some post-poll surveys favour BJP to emerge as the single largest party in Karnataka, with the JD(S) likely to emerge as the kingmaker. Most exit polls predicted a hung Assembly with the BJP ahead. Will that be a reality or will Congress storm back to power against odds?
