Kasaragod magistrate booked for creating ruckus, assaulting police

Sullia: A judicial first class magistrate from Kasaragod was booked by police for creating ruckus and later released after the magistrate gave an undertaking.

Unnikrishnan V K (45), a magistrate in Vidyanagar in Kasaragod, was travelling in an auto in Sullia. As the driver could not understand where he wanted to go, the magistrate allegedly abused him in foul language and manhandled him. Both of them reached the police station where the magistrate allegedly abused the police and misbehaved with them. It is said that Unnikrishnan assaulted Circle Inspector Krishnaiah, when he questioned him.

When the police tried to pacify him, the magistrate allegedly assaulted two constables and ravaged the tables of the police officers. He was later overpowered by the police. Police confirmed that he was indeed a judicial officer and sent him to the district circuit house under police protection.

Unnikrishnan was booked under Sections IPC 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 341 (wrongful restraint), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation). He was release after he gave an undertaking.
