Mangaluru: MLA U.T. Khader expressed his anguish over MLAs and MPs in the state not standing up for the minor community under 2A in the district, who might face problems owing to the 2A reservation issue that is persistent currently in the state where people are demanding to be moved to SC/ST from 2A and from 3A to 2A.

He was speaking to a media person here on Saturday, March 20 and said that communities such as poojary, kulal, Acharya, gatti, tiya and ganiga will face the heat if they are moved from the current 2 A. It is important to take a clear decision after due discussion with various backward community organisations so that youth in the future will not face hardships, he noted.

Khader observed that the centre and state is out to privatise not only loss-making companies but also profit-making companies such as BSNl. Let the government provide jobs based on merit and reservation in private companies too, he urged. He stated that panchamasali and vokkaliga corporation have been provided with Rs 500 crore grant under the budget, while the rest of the corporation has got Rs 500 crore in total. This partial attitude will create problems in terms of providing scholarships and educational help to youth in the rest of the communities. Already many communities have failed to provide scholarship to students in the state for long now, he said. Only grants are being provided by the state, no work is followed up, he alleged.

Taking the jibe at state government, he said that the government that takes loans should also use it for people’s development and not simply mount up the loan year by year. He noted that the government would have collected 30% taxes if it had given away Rs 10,000 to BPL families during pandemic days.
