Mangaluru: Konkani film ‘Apsara Dhara’ and Tulu film ‘Malla Daana’ have been selected for the 25th Kolkata International Film festival.
Konkani children’s film ‘Apsara Dhara’ is the first Konkani film to be shot in Egypt. This film’s producer and director Dr Ramesh Kamath is a graduate from Poona Film and Television Institute and he is known for other Konkani films like ‘Janamana’ and ‘As Vai Jaa Saa.’
Apsara Dhara is based on how to be successful in life and the slogan the movie carries is ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.’
Child artistes Sarthak Shenoy and Kumari Swathi Bhat from Mangaluru are playing lead roles in the film. Dr Dayanand Pai, businessman and philanthropist, Gopinath Bhat, P Rohidas Nayak are part of the film.
Tulu film Malla Daana is produced by M D Koushik and directed by Shivanand, co-directed by Manipal theatre artiste Bhaskar Manipal. The story of this film revolves around an elderly couple suffering from kidney failure and a youth who comes forward to donate his kidney to help them. The screening of this film will be on November 14 at Kolkota film festival.
This movie is shot in Manipal and Kundapur. The camera work is by Swamy and artistes Sarvotham Shetty, Shreya, Ravi Kumar Murdeshwara, Chandrika Rao Poornima Suresh, Tharanath Bolar, Avinash Kamath, and Sandeep Udupi have acted in the film.
