Bantwal: Vittal police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly trying to sexually assault a minor girl in Punacha.
Vignesh, a resident of Mameshwarakatte in Kasaba village is the arrested.
It has been reported that the accused had entered the house of a 16-year-old girl when she was alone and tried to take advantage of her. He also threatened to kill her if she informed anyone about it.
The girl narrated the incident to her parents when they returned home. A case was registered on POCSO act at Vittal police station.
Vignesh who was absconding since then, was waiting for a bus near Mangalapadau on Thursday in a bid to escape. Based on credible information, Vittal police arrested him.
The police team that undertook the search operation included Bhaskar Rai, Circle inspector Belliyappa. Vittal police sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga, ASI Ananda Poojary, staff Balakrishna, Praveen Rai, Praveen Kumar, Janardhana and Ramachandra.
The accused has been produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
