Mangaluru: Bishop of the Mangalore Diocese Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha has been elected the new chairman of the Conference of CBI (Catholic Bishops of India) Commission for Liturgy.
He was elected by the Plenary Assembly, which also elected 26 Bishops of the CCBI to participate in the three weeks Golden Jubilee Conference of FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences) which will be held in the month of November in Bangkok, Thailand.
CCBI is the Canonical National Episcopal Conference, which is the largest in Asia and the fourth-largest in the world.
The one-day meeting of the CCBI discussed various matters affecting the Latin Catholic Church in India, which consists of 132 dioceses and 190 Bishops. The CCBI animates the Church in India through its 16 Commissions and four Departments. Its main Secretariat is in Bengaluru with extensions in Goa, Delhi and Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh.
