Mangaluru: Bishop of the Mangalore Diocese Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will inaugurate the new building of St Antony Church, Anthonykatte, located near Bajpe on Saturday, December 21.
Parish Priest of St Antony Church Rev Fr Edwin Francis Pinto told reporters here on Wednesday, December 18, that the church building was built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores. “Mariyapura Church, located near Bajpe, was demolished in the year 2003 when the Bajpe airport was converted into an international airport. Later, two separate churches were built at Adyapady and Anthonykatte for the convenience of the people. The Anthonykatte Church was functioning as a small chapel so far. In order to facilitate more number of devotees, a new church building has been constructed with proper facilities,” he said.
“After the inauguration of the new church building, the Bishop will bless the church and sanctuary followed by high mass. After the holy eucharist, formal stage programme will be held attended by MLC Ivan D’Souza, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, former MLA J R Lobo and others. After the stage programme, there will be a felicitation of the achievers and a musical programme as well,” he added.
St Antony Church vice president Walter Monteiro, secretary Roshan Mascarenhas and Four Winds Mass Communications Director E Fernandes were present.
