Mangaluru: The third booth has been constructed at Brahmarakootlu Tool Plaza on NH – 75 near BC Road to avoid a queue of vehicles. The third booth was constructed to avoid two booths each on either side of the highway where the toll of vehicles was high and the vehicles had to line up when the pressure was high.

There are four to five tool booths on each of the two sides of the Talapady Yejamadi Toll Plaza of Navayuga Sansthana but only two booths are functioning in Brahmarakootlu as the number of vehicles is increasing over the years, forcing vehicles to wait in the morning and evening to pay the toll.

The work on the third toll booth was started three to four years ago but initially, it was said that the delay was due to the electricity poles installed near the Thumbay Dam as they were attached to the highway. The work did not pick up the pace even after the shifting of the poles and was completed last year but the work has not started yet. Motorists are waiting and paying the toll.

Nowadays the movement of sand lorries has increased and most of the trucks are plying on the service road after avoiding the toll. A few days ago, sand lorries were stopped and asked to adapt to FASTag and except for around 15 lorries, the rest have taken the escape route.

In this background, authorities concerned must realise the need to open the third toll plaza at Brahmarakootlu for commuters’ convenience.
