Mangaluru: The construction of a six-lane bridge over the Kuloor Gurupura river, which connects Mangaluru and Udupi, is progressing at a snail’s pace and the Government’s deadline given to the contractors is nearing completion.
While the highway four-lane of NH-66 has taken 10 years to complete in Pumpwell but the work on the Kuloor bridge has now become even more lamer. It is already a major highway passing through Dakshina Kannada District connecting Kerala and Goa. The bridge, which is already in a dilapidated condition, is now being used for running even though its life has expired.
Having lost the capacity to bear the heavy load, the Government urgently needs to take steps to complete the bridge work before any mishap occurs.
