Mangaluru: Car driver dies in school bus-car collision

Mangaluru: The driver N. Rajesh Acharya (39), who was seriously injured after his car collided with a school vehicle near Basavanakaje in Alangar on National Highway 169, succumbed to his injuries on midnight of Wednesday November 2.

Both the vehicles were damaged when a car coming from Karkala side rammed into the bus of St. Thomas English Medium School in Alangar. The school children were out of danger with minor injuries.

Another person in the car also sustained injuries and is said to be recuperating.

The deceased Rajesh scuplted chariots for Kodyadka, Polali and Kateel temples. He is son of Yekkaru Appu Acharya Karkala. He first worked as a sculptor and later became involved in the business of tourist cars in Mangaluru. The incident took place when he was returning from his mother’s house in Karkala. Rajesh is married and survived by his wife and a 14-year-old daughter. Rajesh Acharya was residing at Attavar in City.
