Mangaluru: A team from Childline Dakshina Kannada rescued an 8-month-old girl from her inebriated mother on Friday July 15.

On its toll-free number, 1098, the childline received a call informing it of a child in need of rescue. According to sources, the caller reported to the helpline that a woman who appeared to be very inebriated was seen roaming around a government hospital in the City with a toddler.

Following the complaint, the childline officials and the Pandeshwar police intercepted the woman. The toddler was to be taken away from her and taken care of at a government facility for rescued children after the Child Welfare Committee found that the mother was unable to care for the child.

According to sources, the woman was seen roaming in the area while severely drunk for the last 15 days.

The childline team was headed by Childline Dakshina Kannada centre Coordinator Deekshith Achrappady.
