Mangaluru: After a two-day-long curfew enforcement following the violence that broke out during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Mangaluru returned to normalcy on Sunday, December 22.
KSRTC and private buses, autorickshaws and taxis were seen plying as usual. Business outlets and petty shops opened their shutters on Sunday morning. Central market and other markets in the city were functioning as usual and were bustling with activity.
Even though a stabbing incident occurred in Ambika Nagar under the Ullal police station limits on Saturday at around 10 PM, it did not have an effect on the daily life of the people. As the incident occurred in the city’s outskirts, police stuck to their decision of lifting the curfew from 6 AM to 9 PM on Sunday. The curfew will be reinforced after 9 PM today and will be lifted on Monday at 6 AM. Section 144 of the CrPC will be continued from Monday for a few more days as a precautionary measure, police sources said.
