Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has received a special mention from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in the Indian Swachhata League competition for cities and local bodies.

Mangaluru has been shortlisted for special recognition in the category of cities with populations ranging from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh, according to MCC sources.

More than 1,850 city and local bodies competed in the Swachh Bharath Abhiyan campaign. The award is given to cities that are working to make the concept of a waste-free environment a reality.

The award would be presented on Friday September 30 at the Talkatora stadium in New Delhi, according to Roopa Mishra, joint secretary to the Ministry.

Cities in the League were given the opportunity to detail their innovative national-level activities. According to the sources, the guidelines used to determine the national winners were youth participation, novel ideas for implementing activities, and an improvement in urban cleanliness as a result of the activity.
