Mangaluru: Mangaluru South legislator D. Vedavyas Kamath said on Sunday November 13 that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will unveil the statue of freedom hero Kedambadi Ramayya Gowda at Bavutagudde (Light House Hill) on November 19.
Speaking to mediapesons, Kamath said that an 11-foot-tall statue of Ramayya Gowda will be installed at Bavutagudde to honour the legendary Amara Sullia Rebellion of 1837, which Gowda led.
He said that it was made in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, and that it will be installed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh.
The remaining funds will be approved by the Kannada and Culture Department, and MCC has already approved Rs. 30 lakh for the project, he added.
He said that there will be roughly 25,000 attendees, and all necessary preparations will be done for those people.
Mayor Jayanand Anchan, Deputy Mayor Poornima, MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar, and others were present for the meeting.
