Mangaluru: A committee under the supervision of Dr. Mohan Alva has been formed to recommend the inclusion of Tulu in the Constitution’s Eighth schedule, informed Kannada and Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar on Monday January 30.

“A committee led by Dr. Mohan Alva has been formed to undertake research and provide a report with relevant recommendations regarding the declaration of Tulu as the second official language of Karnataka,” tweeted the Minister.

It has been a long-standing demand of the Coastal districts to include the Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, which is spoken by at least 2.5 to 3 million people in Karnataka.

According to the Union Government, there are no plans to add Tulu to the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule.
