Mangaluru: The electricity distribution company reported that several customers had received fraudulent messages and warned customers not to fall for the con.
Customers have received SMS messages threatening to cut off their access to electricity for non-payment of dues and claiming to be from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM).
“Dear customer, your electricity connection will be disconnected at 9.30 pm tonight as you have not paid your previous month’s electricity bill,” read the message.
MESCOM stated that it does not SMS consumers. It warned consumers to remain cautious and urged not to respond to such messages.
The company asked its consumers to report any fraudulent message received to its helpline 1912.
