Mangaluru: ‘Though laws such as the Goonda Act, Anti-terrorism Act are in force, if the Government and the Police Officials were alert when cases like wall graffiti took place, there would not have been cases like a cooker blast in the District. The failure of the Government has led to chaos in the society today,” alleged Former MLA J. R. Lobo.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Office here in the City, he condemned the process of looking at the entire community with suspicion for the crime of one person from the community and called upon the people not to pay heed to such speculations and fake news instead requested people to maintain harmony.

“Fake news is being circulated on some newspapers, channels and social media related to the Cooker blast case but no action is being taken against those spreading such news. Recently, a man was arrested overnight for sharing a picture of a pregnant woman with a leopard’s face on social media and a non-bailable case was registered. But why is the government and the police not registering cases against those who are spreading fake news that creates a division in the society?” he questioned.

Further he said, “The BJP has been trying to create an atmosphere of confusion in the society as elections are approaching. Due to this the admissions to educational institutions in the District are declining companies are stepping back from investment, and tourism is not developing, he said.

Questioning the Government he said, “Who is responsible for the mindset of a professor of a reputed college calling a student as ‘terrorist’. Recently an incident took place near Nanthoor where students of an educational institution were caught and beaten up for talking to each other. Why the police were not taking action against such a people? When the Goonda Act is raised to ban any organisations that disturb peace, there will be harmony in the society,” he added.

“Apart from increase in electricity prices, milk and milk products, the life of the people is in distress due to GST. The tax burden on the people can be reduced, when administrative expenses are reduced but the Government is totaly neglecting this, the BJP administration and the police system have failed and people need to think whether they want such a Government,” he asserted.

Answering a question he said, “The Opposition does not have to go on complaining on every issue, it is the duty of the Opposition to create awareness among the people, highlight the failure of the ruling party and we will do the same.”
