Magaluru: Energy Minister V. Suni Kumar has demanded steps to set up Narayana Guru Corporation. A delegation of Billava Community leaders led by Sunil Kumar, submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and got in-principle approval for the formation of the Corporation.
The Billava Community, one of the most Backward Communities, has the largest number of population in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru Districts and also has its presence in the rest of the districts of the State. It was requested that the Corporation should be set up with a view of the development of this socially, economically and educationally backward society and also to propagate the ideals of Narayana Guru. The Community Delegation has appealed to the Government to bring all sections of the society, who have surnames like Billava, Idiga, Namadhari, etc., under one platform and help in all-round development. In this context, he urged the Government to take steps to set up the Corporation.
CM Bommai, who accepted the request, gave in-principle approval for the establishment of the Corporation and promised to make an official announcement in the Budget.
BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Raghupathi Bhat, Hartalu Halappa, seers and leaders of the Billava Community were present on the occasion.
