Mangaluru: Man gets 5-year jail term for sexual assault on girl

Mangaluru: A fast track court in Dakshina Kannada District, on Tuesday September 6, found a man guilty of sexually harassing a schoolgirl and sentenced him to prison under the POCSO Act.

According to sources, one of the charges against the accused, Vijay alias Umesha of Hosakaveri near Kinnigoli, resulted in a sentence of five years in jail and a fine of Rs. 5,000, as well as a further term of one year in prison and a fine of Rs. 1,000.

As per the police chargesheet, the accused took the victim, a specially-abled class 5 student, to school in Kinnigoli. He would take the young girl to a secluded area near Shibarooru road where he would harass her sexually.

In the year 2019, a complaint was filed at the Mulki Police Station.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the then-Sub Inspector of Mulki, Ananthapadmanabha, had submitted a chargesheet in this regard.
