Mangaluru: Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Wednesday September 28 in Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada District for allegedly raping and impregnating a girl.

The man, a resident of Taluk’s Ubaradka Mittur village, has been charged under Section 176 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, informed the police.

The accused was brought before a local court and remanded in judicial custody.

According to the victim’s father’s police complaint, his daughter and the accused communicated via a WhatsApp group. They started talking and later he asked her to come to Sullia on June 30.

As per the complaint, the accused took her on his two-wheeler and then allegedly raped her at a friend’s house. When the girl complained of stomach pain, her parents took her to a doctor, who confirmed that she was pregnant.

Further investigation is on.
