Mangaluru: Muslim girls’ colleges to be set up in 10 places in the State, including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
The State Government is reportedly planning to set up 10 Muslim girls’ colleges in the State. A strategy to set up 10 colleges for Muslim girls in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kalaburagi, Yadgiri and Raichur Districts will be launched soon. The State Waqf Board had submitted a proposal to set up 10 separate colleges for Muslim girls. It has been reported that it has received Government approval.
A grant of Rs. 2.5 Crore has also been earmarked for each college. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is likely to lay the foundation stone for the project next month. Colleges will be set up in parts of North Karnataka, Hyderabad Karnataka, where Muslims are in majority, including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu.
These colleges will be built on Waqf properties across the State. After the foundation stone is laid, the construction work will begin and the colleges are expected to start functioning from 2024-25.
Initially, the first PUC will start and the very next year it will continue till graduation after the second PUC.
