Mangaluru: Obstructing postman on duty, accused jailed

Mangaluru: A prison sentence and fine were imposed on the accused at the City’s Sixth JMFC Court for impeding a postman who was on duty.

Manish, a City resident from Matadakani, is the accused who is found guilty by the Court. Dinesh, a postman employed by the Ashoknagar Post Office, went to deliver registered post to the accused on June 16, 2020. The accused Manish, it is alleged has abused the postman, threatening to kill him, and hitting Dinesh with an iron rod. Additionally, he tore the letter and destroyed the postman Dinesh’s bike, creating a loss of Rs. 13,500.

Sub-inspector Haroon Akhtar of Barke Police Station had filed a complaint and a charge sheet with the court. Manish was given a sentence of 10 months’ simple imprisonment under IPC column 332, 5 months’ simple imprisonment under column 353, and 6 months’ simple imprisonment under column 324 by Justice Poojarshree H. S. Manish was also given a 2,500 rupee fine. He will serve an additional 10 days of simple jail if the fine is not paid.

Mohan Kumar, an Assistant Public Prosecutor, made the case for the prosecution.
