Mangaluru: The villagers protested on the street against the Highway Construction Company alleging that the road has been closed for the construction work at Kalladka in Bantwal here.
During the ongoing work on the Highway, the residents expressed their anger over the closure of the public road where the National Highway work was going on and tried to disrupt the work. The company, which was carrying out the work by closing the public road, had encroached on the private land and constructed the road and washed its hands, it is alleged.
The Company, which took over the contract after encroaching on private land and constructing the road, has not come forward to talk to the land owners or the public. Realising that they would convert the road constructed on the same private land into a permanent one, the owner of the private land closed the road, it is learnt.
Due to the narrowing of the road, the public was unable to move from the Kalladka National Highway to the other side. For this reason, the villagers took to the streets on the morning of Monday January 30 and reprimanded the workers who were carrying out the work. Later, the Directors of the company were summoned to the spot by Bantwal City Police Station Sub-Insoector Ramakrishna also summoned the officials of the Revenue Department related to resolving the issue.
The villagers here left the spot after being promised the construction of the road without causing any inconvenience to the public.
