Mangaluru: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has started a probe into the Mangaluru police firing case on Monday, December 30, following the state government ordering a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Later, the DC, in a press release informed that eyewitnessed to the incident or those who have reliable information about the violent protest and police firing which occurred on December 19, can approach him at Assistant Commissioner’s office, located at the second floor of Mini Vidhana Soudha, Mangaluru, between 11 am to 1.30 pm January 7.
The information given by the public would be recorded properly and it would help to conduct investigation, the press release said.
It may be recalled that the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act had turned violent and the police had opened fire to control the angry mob in the city. Two youth lost their lives in the incident.
Jagadeesha has been given the responsibility of magisterial inquiry and he came to city on Monday in connection to the same.
Later, he discussed with Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh with regard to the protest and further developments.
He also paid visit to the place where the protests took place, near State Bank area, City Bus stand and Nellikai Road.
