Mangaluru: While the political parties have been busy blaming each other over the recent police firing and the death of two people, the Mangaluru police department has released video footage on social media, where protesters are seen pelting stones at the police and damaging public property.
It can be recalled that, when Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha said that the police department was forced to resort to firing at the protesters, no one believed him. Now, however, after the videos were released on the Mangaluru City Police’s Facebook page on Tuesday, December 24, people now suspect that the violent protest was pre-planned.
In the videos, it can be seen that the protesters are pelting stones at the police and damaging public property. The footage also shows that stones were stored in a goods tempo and dumped at the spot from where protesters picked them and flung them at the police. In one video, it can be seen that the person who was capturing the vandalism on his phone, was thrashed by the protesters.
These videos were picked by the TV channels, who immediately began airing them.
It can be noted that, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha had, on Monday, requested the public to send them videos and photos of the violent protest. Many people responded and sent him video footage,.some of which showed police harassment of the public during the curfew.
