Mangaluru: “I will get experts report and we will provide a permanent solution for sea erosion, said Dakshina Kannada District Incharge Minister V. Sunil Kumar.

Speaking to mediapersons on his visit to Uchila at Ullalahere on Thursday July 7 Sunil said that he will discuss with the ministers and officials and take further action. “Our first priority is to protect residential properties. Resorts are not our priority, but home stays are important. We will undertake emergency relief and also permanent relief. Ministers of all the three Districts will meet the CM and discuss regarding the problem.”

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister R. Ashok said, “In Uchila, fishermen’s houses have been washed away due to sea erosion and added that, “I have spoken to the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai regarding construction of sea barrier. If the sea erosion is not stopped, it will just continue to escalate, he said and added, once again we will conduct a survey here through a panel of experts. There is a lot of damage in the State and there are problems in seven districts, the Minister said.

Furthet he said, “I will go to Bengaluru and sign the order to pay compensation of Rs. 5 lakh if the whole house is collapsed. According to the NDRF rules, it was 95,000, however, we spoke to the CM and increased it to Rs. 5 lakh. We will give compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the victims of Panjikallu Hill collapse in Bantwal. They are from Kerala and have come here for work,” he noted.

He added, “I have instructed the DCs to evacuate the people from the area where landslide has occurred and thus all officers have been asked to work without leave.”

Reacting to MLA U. T. Khader’s statement that the State Government has not be supporting as far as sea erosion is concerned, Minister R. Ashok said that as a person from Opposition Party, one should not speak with election in mind. BJP Government ruled for ten years, while Congress lasted for more than 60 years. Even then there was sea erosion and along with the same, the Congress rule too. Despite all of this, it is not right to blame us for doing nothing, Ashok said.

We will not politicise this issue. If so, we would have visited BJP constituencies and not Congress Constituency, he remarked. However, the people who have suffered the damage are our Indian citizens, he asserted and added, “Therefore we will give compensation through NDRF Fund.”

“A note of criticism is natural but we work impartially,” he emphasised.
