Mangaluru: Due to incessant rains and Shambhavi River overflowing, around 50 families in the Shuntipadi area under Aikala Gram Panchayat limits near Kinnigolu of Dakshina Kannada District have been rendered out of touch with the outside world. Shuntipadi has become literally an island now.

The road that connects Shuntipadi to outer world gets submerged every year during the rainy season. This road connects Shuntipadi to Kudripadavu. From there the road on one side connects to Moodabidri through Kudripadavu and the other side of the road connects to Kinnigoli. However, the road on either side connecting Shuntipadi or Kudripadavu has been damaged, making it difficult for people to move around.

Half of the road has been asphalted. The villagers alleged that as soon as the monsoon begins, the road becomes like a kambala field. The children of this area have to use this road to go to school. However the road always gets submerged due to the rain water, making it impossible for the children to even go to school.

Naveen, a local resident, expressed his helplessness. The villagers have demanded that the Aikala Gram Panchayat and politicians should provide a permanent solution to the villagers of Shuntipadi in this regard.
