Mangaluru: The ongoing Smart City works in different parts of the City are leading to accidents and the problem has intensified after the onset of monsoon, especially with bikers falling and getting injured, which has now become normal.
People are angry with the Mangaluru City Corporation stating that if no action is taken in this regard, these accidents could take the lives of people. Over the past few months, Smart City works and installation of GAIL India pipeline have picked up pace in the City due to which motorists are prone to unreported minor accidents and vehicles damaged due to fatal potholes on the road. But the authorities are yet to take any safety measures on these deadly potholes created due to the ongoing works.
The potholes dug as part of Smart City and GAIL India pipeline works at various major junctions and roads in the City is left uncovered after completion of the works. And if the work has been left incomplete, there is no safety measures taken around the area, while the potholes at the site where the work has been completed are only covered with mud which makes the entire road muddy during the rainy season.
There are potholes at many places including Ambedkar Jyothi Circle, Balmatta Junction, Falnir, Bolar and others, causing inconvenience to motorists.
This has worsened during the rainy season, especially at night as the potholes filled with water go unnoticed.
Earlier, people across the City had complained about the inconvenience caused by the GAIL India pipeline installation work and objected to its digging operation but Baikampady and other areas were severely affected during the pipeline installation work.
