Mangaluru: A student drowned to death at Kallanda near Ermayi Falls in Mittabagilu Village of the District on Saturday December 3.
The deceased has been identified as Vivek (17), son of Keshav Bhandari, a resident of Dondole in Dharmasthala Village. The incident took place on afternoon of Saturday December 3 when he had gone to Ermai Falls with six to seven of his friends and further had gone to bath in the falls as the college was closed later in the afternoon.
It is common for people who come to the falls to take a bath in the falls in the Kallanda locality. Since the 2019 floods, the pit has been filled with silt and has not been so deep. But this year’s rain has washed away the silt and the pit has become deeper.
Locals often don’t pay attention to this as tourists keep shouting, and screaming, etc. while bathing here on Saturday same thing happened. Locals said that despite warnings from locals, tourists do not pay attention to it and sometimes get into the water after having arguments.
The locals helped in lifting the dead body.
