Mangaluru: The Hijab row once again has gathered steam in the State with students from University College in the City on Monday May 30 approaching the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V. seeking permission to wear Hijabon the campus.
Asany as 12 students demanded that Hijab be allowed inside the college on Saturday May 28, and also persisited doing so on Monday too. As there is a dress code in place for the students, the college authorities did not allow them to enter on both the days. As they were asked to approach the Deputy Commissioner, three students visited the DC and submitted a memorandum.
Speaking to mediapersons, DC Dr. Rajendra said some students who were aggrieved with the university syndicate order had come to him. He said that he told the students he was not in a position to challenge the decision of the syndicate members at the district level and one has to abide by the rules and order of the syndicate. Stating that they have to also look into legal aspects, I have urged them to ensure peace and harmony in the campus,” he added.
