Mangaluru: Surathkal tollgate merger, toll rate more expensive now

Mangaluru: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) finally announced to merge the Surathkal toll Gate with the Hejamady Toll plaza few days ago. The order will come into effect from December 1 and the toll rates have gone up. The authority has instructed the Udupi Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M. to ensure that law and order is not disturbed during toll collection.

The NHAI on Thursday November 24 wrote to the Udupi District Administration regarding the merger of Mukka Surathkal toll with effect from December 1, which will make the toll amount at Hejamady more expensive as expected. The toll collection on the NMP Road Connectivity Road, which was installed at Surathkal by the Highways Authority of India on behalf of IRCON, which carried out the four-lane highway work between Surathkal and B. C. Road, has been merged with the toll gate of a new age company in Hejamady. The duty rate at Surathkal has also been clubbed with Hejamady, the letter stated.

It should be ensured that law and order is not disturbed during toll collection. In case there is any discrepancy in toll collection after the increase in toll rates after the merger of Hejamady, the State Government will have to bear the loss as per the State Government’s agreement with NHAI. All kinds of help, assistance and police protection should be provided by the Udupi District Administration, it stated.

In a letter to the Udupi District Administration, Highways Authority of India Project Manager H. S. Lingegowda, said that it would come into effect from the midnight of December 1.

Revised rates after merger with Hejamady

• Light vehicle as well as car, jeep, van: In Surathkal, the fare for a single trip was Rs. 60, the Hejamady fare was Rs. 40, henceforth the payment would be Rs. 100.
• The return trip rate is Rs 155 including Rs. 90 and Rs. 65.
• The monthly pass rate for 50 single trips is Rs. 3,460, including Rs. 2,050 and Rs. 1,410 respectively.

• Light Commercial Vehicle, Light Goods Vehicle/Mini Bus: The fare for a single trip in Surathkal is Rs. 100, Hejamady is Rs. 70, henceforth the payment is Rs. 170.
• The return trip rate is Rs. 150 and Rs. 100 plus Rs. 250.
• The monthly pass rate for 50 single trips is Rs. 5590 including Rs. 3315 and Rs. 2275 respectively.
• Bus or truck (two axles): For a single trip in Surathkal, the fare was Rs. 210, Hejamady fare was Rs. 145 and henceforth the payment was Rs. 355.
• The return trip fare is Rs. 525 including Rs. 310 and Rs. 215.
• The monthly pass rate for 50 single trips is Rs. 11,705 including Rs. 6,940 and Rs. 4,765 respectively.

• Heavy Construction Machinery/Moving Equipment/Multi-Axle Vehicles: The fare for a single trip in Surathkal is Rs. 325, Hejamady is Rs. 225, henceforth the payment is Rs. 550.
• The return trip rate is Rs. 490 and Rs. 335 inclusive of Rs. 825.
• The monthly pass rate for 50 single trips is Rs. 18,360 including Rs. 10,885 and Rs. 7,475 respectively.

• Over-sized vehicles 7 or more axles: For a single trip in Surathkal, the fare was Rs. 400, the Hejamady fare was Rs. 275 and henceforth the payment was Rs. 675. Monthly pass is Rs. 315.
• The return trip rate is Rs. 1,005 including Rs. 595 and Rs. 410.
• The monthly pass rate for 50 single trips is Rs. 22,350, including Rs. 13,250 and Rs. 9,100 respectively.
