Mangaluru: ZP CEO Dr Kumar receives State-level award

Mangaluru: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed to celebrate the 13th National Voters’ Day programme with the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure” and accordingly, the National Voters’ Day programme was celebrated at Sir Puttannachetty Town Hall, Bengaluru on Wednesday January 25 at the State-level.

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Kumar was selected for the State-level award for best performance in various categories at the State level. Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Kumar, who was selected in the CEO category of Zilla Panchayat, was conferred with the award by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot.

The Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats are the Nodal Officers for sweep (systematic voter education and voter participation) at the District level and undertake the task of creating awareness among the voters through electoral literacy clubs, educational institutions and other institutions to increase the enrolment and voter turnout of eligible voters.

Among them are the registration of young voters, specially-abled and voter registration of other categories. The State-level award was presented to Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats for their outstanding performance in 2022 on the occasion of National Voters’ Day.

Speaking to News Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Kumar said, “We have done the work and have been honoured with the award. In order to create awareness about voting among the people in street activity related to the Election Commission, we have sent Yakshagana artistes to railway station, bus stand and colleges to create awareness among the youth about voting. This has resulted in a good young enrolment in our District. Apart from getting the award, the responsibilities are also even greater. This increased responsibility needs to be handled even better.”
