Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has started an online surveillance mechanism to keep a check on people throwing garbage in public places, to reduce the number of black spots.

According to reports, MCC Zonal commissioner Shabarinath Rai said that people stopped throwing waste at many black spots after MCC placed the portable CCTV cameras. Depending on the complaints from the public, the cameras are placed. There is no need for an electricity connection and hence it can be shifted anywhere in the city.

Live footage is sent to the command-and-control centre of MCC where the officials can identify the violators and take action. Health inspectors can also check footage through their mobile apps. MCC has secured six camera units, including a solar panel system, at a cost of Rs 4.1 lakhs.
