Mangaluru: A meeting with the Town Vending Committee under the chairmanship of Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Premanada Shetty and MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar was held in the Standing Committee Auditorium of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) o Monday March 28.
Under the Central Government PM SVANidhi scheme, in case the street vendors have not been sanctioned a loan from a particular bank, they can be directed to a different bank. The details of pending loans in CBL needn’t be taken into consideration for any of the government schemes. All the applications under PM SVANidhi scheme must be taken into consideration in light of this. It was mentioned that the same will be conveyed to the lead bank manager.
Under the Karnataka Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules, 2014 encroachers apart from the ones trading will be evicted during inspection drives. The inspection squad will include officials from the Tax Department and Police Department.
Clearance drive begins March 30
In a press release, it has instructed that the elected members of the Street Vendors Committee must cooperate completely during the clearance drive. The first level of drive will be held around Maidan Road, Lady Goschen, Service Bus Stand and State Bank on Wednesday March 30. The cooking gas used by food vendors that has the potential to harm the lives of the public will be seized indiscriminately. In order to protect the interests and livelihood of poor street vendors, MCC and the Police Department will conduct the clearance drive. The area for street vending that has been identified under the survey will be declared, the release added.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor, MCC officials and members of the Town Vending Committee.
