MCC invites suggestions from public on Smart City Project

Mangaluru: With a view to invite suggestions in connection to the Mangaluru Smart City, a draft proposal will be released on Saturday December 5, on the government portal mygovt.in. The draft will be open for suggestions till December 11, informed the incumbent Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Dr HN Gopalkrishna.

Addressing media persons at the office of MLC Ivan D’Souza here on Friday December 4, Dr Gopalkrishna said that the draft proposal has to be submitted in the form of a video in a DVD along with a soft copy and three hard copies.

Speaking further he said that the Mangaluru City Corporation has received suggestions from as many as 46,000 people in a cumulative of two-phase suggestions invited earlier.

MLC Ivan D’Souza also proposed a set of suggestions for the Smart City project. They are

– Making the people of Mangaluru smart before implementing the Smart City project.
– Developing the outskirts of the city
– Developing the city on the theme of coastal city and developing the port
– Making the city self-reliant on power requirements through solar overhead units and solar parks
– Developing the beaches and organizing cultural programmes
– Developing the ponds of the city for 24×7 water supply
– Developing footpaths and bicycle paths
– Subways and escalators for the public to cross the road
– Creating vehicle-free zones in the city
– Developing industrial areas as per China model
– Utilizing government guest houses and using them efficiently by making them multi-storied
– Allotting different timings for the schools and colleges to minimize the traffic
– Creating shopping streets and food streets for the city
– Introducing underground metro trains
– Zone offices of MCC for the smart administration
– Constructing ring roads around the city
– Uniformity for transportation vehicles and various stands for transportation to various places
– Development of city markets
– Including the airport within the city corporation limits

MCC Mayor Jacintha Alfred and Shashidhar Hegde were present.
