Mangaluru: The Karnataka State Government has issued an order mandating the use of Kannada inside the limits of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). As a result, the MCC has issued trade licences to businesses on the condition that their name/signboard be in Kannada.
According to the order by MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar, it is found that several local business establishments have been violating this rule by publishing their Name/Sign Boards in English. MCC has taken serious notice of this problem after receiving public complaints. It is thus ordered that all businesses display their names in Kannada.
It is also stated that in the case of a violation, trading licences will be cancelled without notice.
